We are looking for a Photonic Simulation R&D Engineer. Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of defining and developing our photonic simulation solutions.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and architect solutions

  • Write clear specifications for new software features and enhancements

  • Design and optimize algorithms and numerical methods in the simulator

  • Develop production-quality code in several programming languages

  • Perform detailed testing of new and enhanced features, and create documentation content

  • Develop photonic device models and circuit examples to demonstrate simulation capabilities

  • Integrate simulation with design environment and layout for a complete end-to-end solution

  • Engage with select customers and ecosystem partners to understand and address their needs

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you must have hands-on experience in photonic IC design and simulation.

  • Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering, physics, or similar fields

  • 3+ years of experience designing integrated photonic devices and/or circuits, through full design cycles, from simulation and layout to tape-out and to experimental characterization

  • Experience in photonic device modeling, using Verilog-A or other methods, to describe the behavior of waveguides, couplers, modulators, photodetectors, lasers, etc. for circuit simulation

  • Experience in photonic circuit simulation, and ideally electronic-photonic co-simulation, using Cadence Spectre, Lumerical INTERCONNECT, or similar tools

  • Experience in photonic device simulation using physical solvers, including optical / EM (e.g., FDTD), electrical / semiconductor (TCAD), and thermal

  • Knowledge of numerical simulation methods is strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with electronic/photonic design automation tools and workflows (familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso platform is a plus)

  • Programming skills in C/C++, Python, and SKILL

  • Experience working with multiple foundries and using or developing photonic PDKs is a plus

  • Good communications skills and ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams

The annual salary range for British Columbia is 105,000 CAD to 195,000 CAD. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
